NEW WORK IN CERAMIC AND BRASS
During NYCxDesign, we’ll be launching two new collections developed through ongoing collaborations between designers in the United States and craft communities across Thailand. Together, they expand our material language through ceramic and cast brass, each shaped by distinct processes, histories and by the people behind them.
Join us at the Afternoon Light Design Fair, May 17-19th, Booth 526
DIN (ดิน — Thai for “clay”)is a ceramic lighting and table collection designed by Christopher Merchant and developed with Chuanlhong Ceramic in Northern Thailand. The work draws from Merchant’s signature fluted forms, translated through local techniques including slip casting and hand-applied glazing. Subtle variations in surface and tone emerge through the firing process, reflecting both the material’s inherent unpredictability and the depth of the region’s ceramic tradition.
The Suthep Mirror Collection, designed by Bowen Liu Studio, explores cast brass as a medium for capturing texture and atmosphere. Inspired by Liu’s time in Chiang Mai and the shifting conditions of Doi Suthep mountain, the mirror frame was first sculpted by hand in clay and then cast in collaboration with a Bangkok-based foundry rooted in Thailand’s longstanding metal casting traditions.
