INTRODUCING THE NEW

STK BEADED SCONCE

WE’RE EXCITED TO INTRODUCE THE STK BEADED SCONCE

— a new wall fixture designed by our founder Robert Sukrachand that blends sculptural detail with warm, atmospheric lighting.

Each terracotta bead is hand-shaped by Chiang Mai artist Supthongkhum SR Studio, whose expressive ceramic work gives the piece its tactile, irregular rhythm. Strung together with waxed cord over a heavy antiqued steel frame, the beads create a veil of earthy texture that softens the light and adds a warm, inviting glow to any space.

Part lighting fixture, part wall sculpture, the STK Beaded Sconce embodies PERN BAAN’s dedication to craftsmanship and a story rooted in Thai materiality.

BEHIND THE DESIGN:

SUPTHONGKHUM SR STUDIO

The terracotta beads are made by P’ Dang and his team of artisans at Supthongkhum SR Studio, located just outside Chiang Mai. Our founder Robert Sukrachand first met P’ Dang six years ago, and the two quickly formed a friendship. Visiting his workshop is like stepping into another world: a garden overgrown with wild greenery and scattered with hundreds of sculptures in clay, metal, and concrete.

Inside, the central studio buzzes with activity. You might find P Dang sketching, painting, or directing his team as they fabricate a new piece out of salvaged scrap metal. He studied fine art in Thailand but didn’t start his full-time practice until much later—after spending 14 years living in New York City in the 1990s.

P’ Dang used to work at a bagel shop on 72nd Street and 2nd Ave. in Manhattan. One day, a regular customer—an 80-year-old painter—looked at him and said:“You don’t look like a sandwich man. You look like an artist.”The two struck up a friendship, and that moment of recognition gave him the confidence to pursue his creative path.

Years later, after returning to Thailand and building his own studio, P Dang began making these sculpted beads—hand-rolled, imprinted, and fired using traditional clay techniques. On one of Robert’s visits, he spotted them hanging in long strands near the entrance, catching the light and swaying gently like wind chimes or ceremonial garlands.

The STK Beaded Sconce is the result of that moment—a collaboration rooted in friendship, material experimentation, and the quiet beauty of handmade things.
