PERN BAAN'S CHIANG MAI SHOWROOM!
AN EXHIBITION OF CONTEMPORARY THAI DESIGN
Since it was first conceived by our founder Robert Sukrachand more than 3 years ago, our five-story shophouse in Chiang Mai has been more than just a place to showcase our designs. It functions as our studio, an exhibition space, and a residency apartment for visiting designers.
For our official opening - the culmination of 3 years of renovations - we curated the ‘FRIENDS OF THE HOME’ exhibition. This multi-floor installation brings together over 30 designers from across Thailand, including talents like Studio Mueja, Slowstitch, Moonler and Atelier 2+. It’s a celebration of the extraordinary work happening in Thailand’s design scene—woven textiles, ceramics, metalware, and more—arranged across several ‘roomscapes’ that showcase each piece in a lived-in setting.

Hannah Bigeleisen + Ceremonial Pacha in the 4th floor Primary Bedroom

CONNECTING OUR THAI + AMERICAN
DESIGN COMMUNITIES
Our goal as a company has always been to connect design lovers in our two homes, the US + Thailand. So we were thrilled that our longtime collaborators from New York -Hannah Bigeleisen,Steven Bukowski,Kira De Paola,Michael Yarinsky, andShino Takeda- were able to join us for the opening!
To celebrate this special occasion we hosted an unforgettable party on our rooftop and invited our favorite local restaurant Toy Roszab to grill ‘gai yang’ (Isaan grilled chicken) and make som tum (papaya salad) in the new outdoor kitchen.
The event was the perfect blend of design, culture, and community—a fitting start to what we hope will be a long-lasting dialogue between our Thai and American design communities.
In the coming blogs, we’ll take a deep dive into some of the products, designers + stories from the exhibition. We’d love to welcome you to our space if you ever find yourself in Thailand in the future!
