A COLLABORATION BETWEEN

PERN BAAN + OFFICE OF TANGIBLE SPACE

We are excited to announce that the first stock of our Waii Rattan Mirrors have arrived in New York from Thailand.

Designed in collaboration with Office of Tangible Space, the Waii Mirror - meaning rattan in Thai - highlights PERN BAAN’s goal of imagining contemporary contexts for classic Thai materials. The sweeping, irregular curves of the mirror frame provide a dynamic backdrop for this versatile woven fiber.

INTRODUCING A NEW COLOR

Originally only available in a natural finish, we are excited to introduce a new ebonized rattan color way. This nearly black hue adds a new dimension to the meticulously handwoven frame and is the perfect fit for neutral interiors.

Materials: Rattan, Metal Framework, Mirror | Dimensions: 32”W x 43.5”H x 4.5” Deep

THE MAKING OF THE
WAII MIRROR

The journey of a Waii Mirror begins in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai at the workshop of P’ Jed. A highly skilled metal artisan who has been sculpting custom furniture and lighting for decades, P Jed and his team specialize in complex bent steel designs.

This made them the perfect partner for fabricating our rattan mirror frames which have sweeping curves and dozens of different radii.

Once woven, the mirrors undergo a meticulous treatment process within the Corner 43 workshop, where artisans burn away any excess rattan fuzz and hand-sand the surface to achieve a smooth finish.

Once the framework is finished, it is sent to our rattan weaving partners at Corner 43 Decor. Located on the outskirts of Bangkok, the team at Corner 43 has over 3 decades of experience making woven cane furniture. The weaving process begins with selecting high-quality rattan, which is carefully soaked to enhance its flexibility.

Finally, the frames are sprayed with a matte sealer to enhance the feel and depth of the rattan.

From start to finish, the Waii Mirror passes through a nearly a dozen artisans hands before it’s ready to leave Thailand.
