COLLABORATOR SPOTLIGHT:
ART RESOURCES
We recently had a chance to sit down with Pug and her father Pramote,
the owners of Art Resources, a family-owned furniture business established in Bangkok in 1989.
Known for their exquisite craftsmanship and signature Thai Art Deco aesthetic,
Art Resources’ furniture is crafted in a variety of materials from parchment to cast bronze.
Let’s take a dive into Pug and her Father’s journey as they evolve into the second generation
of this beloved family business!

Pramote: After graduating from law school, I quickly realized that the legal field wasn’t for me. So, I decided to step away and join my family’s business.
It was during a trip to France that I discovered my passion for Art Deco design. The aesthetic captivated me, especially the works of Max Le Verrier and Giacometti. When I returned to Thailand, I began creating Art Deco-inspired picture frames and bronzeware, which we exported and sold to hotels across the country.
Pug: My father’s love for antiques and Art Deco design has always been personal. His dedication to the craft is inspiring—he was so committed that he even worked on his wedding day!
That morning, he was busy installing picture frames at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, which also happened to be the venue for his wedding later that evening.
Pramote: [Laughs] Yes, I remember rushing upstairs to finish the installation, then coming right back down just in time for the ceremony.

Pramote:I had wanted to work with parchment for a long time, but it was a challenge at first. Still, I felt it was worth the investment. Traditionally, parchment came in neutral shades like cream and beige, but we wanted to break away from that and introduce more vibrant colors. I worked closely with our long-time technicians—some of whom have been with us for over 20 to 30 years—to experiment and develop new techniques. It took time, but through trial and error, we eventually perfected the process.

Pug: I worked as a photographer in London for many years before moving back to Bangkok five years ago, just before the Covid pandemic hit. Coming back gave me the opportunity to explore new creative projects and work on things I genuinely love, all while preparing to carry on the legacy of Art Resources. At that time, the pandemic had significantly affected many of our B2B and
hospitality projects, putting large-scale work on hold. So, I shifted our focus to bespoke, custom-made pieces for residential clients. Because our furniture is handcrafted, we can create one-of-a-kind pieces tailored to each client’s preferences, from colors to dimensions. This pivot allowed us to embrace a more personalized approach than ever before.
Pug: My inspiration comes from a mix of sources—books, paintings, movies, travel, and photography, especially the way different color palettes interact. Some of my favorite influences include photographers like Guy Bourdin and Saul Leiter, as well as painters like Günther Förg and Mark Rothko. I also find inspiration in nostalgic elements, such as classic cartoons likeThe JetsonsandTom and Jerry.

Pug: It’s been both challenging and fun. There’s definitely a generation gap between us; I want it to be more modern and bring a contemporary feel, but we aim to always keep it rooted in our original materials and techniques.

is something we also embrace at Pern Baan
and it’s why we were so attracted to Art Resources’ work in the first place.
We are honored to distribute their designs within the US. The 40 Side Table,
which we debuted at ICFF, was featured in the September issue of
Interior Design Magazine. (Right)
We also just finished up this custom triangular shaped parchment
console table for an exciting interior project in Brooklyn!
